Search & Destroy #7
Softcover | First edition | Out of print
Published by Search & Destroy, San Francisco, 1978.
Founded by V. Vale while working at City Lights Bookstore, Search & Destroy began with a $100 grant from Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Allen Ginsberg to document the emerging punk movement. Printed in a raw, cut-and-paste tabloid format, the zine featured interviews, photography, and underground music coverage.
Issue #7 includes interviews with Cabaret Voltaire, Roky Erickson, John Waters, Patti Smith, and The Clash, offering a cross-section of punk, experimental music, and outsider culture. The 22-page issue is filled with photography, scene reports, and firsthand accounts from San Francisco’s punk underground. The zine ran for 11 issues between 1977 and 1979 before evolving into RE/Search, expanding its focus to broader countercultural themes.
