Hikari
Hardcover | First edition | 72 pages
Published by Rockin’On, Tokyo, 1997.
Hikari is Hiromix’s second photobook, released at the height of Japan’s “onnanoko shashinka” (girly photography) movement in the late 1990s. Departing from the diaristic tone of her debut Girls Blue, this oversized volume focuses on expansive urban and natural landscapes—skies, rooftops, city streets—rendered in full-bleed colour. The images are quiet, often empty, and suffused with light (“hikari”), evoking a sense of solitude and introspection. The book closes with a self-portrait and a poetic afterword by Hiromix in Japanese. Designed under her own art direction, Hikari reflects a more contemplative and atmospheric shift in her early work.
