Broomberg and Chanarin took the complete text of the King James Bible, underlined its passages of violence, and interspersed the pages with photographs drawn from the Archive of Modern Conflict. Guided by philosopher Adi Ophir's argument that God reveals himself primarily through catastrophe, the work maps the power structures of the biblical text onto those of modern governance. Inspired in part by the annotations Bertolt Brecht made in his own personal bible. The book replicates the precise structure and physical form of the King James Version. Winner of the 2013 Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize.
