Just a Man in Love
Softcover | first edition | unpaginated
Published by Self Published, 2018.
Hiroshi Shiohara’s second photobook portrays a couple having sex in a way not yet seen. Rather than offering explicit imagery, Shiohara captures fragments of both of their faces and bodies — skin, limbs, closeness — always partially obscured, cropped, or caught in motion. The sequence moves from foreplay to climax and eventually to a walk in the grass, holding hands. The book offers no context and no details about the couple; yet their expressions — earnest, natural, unpretending, glistening with sweat — tell a whole story. A brilliant, poetic book about passion and love.
First edition, self-published softcover, sold through the Japanese photobook fair circuit where it repeatedly sold out. Subsequently republished by Libro Arte as a hardcover new edition (2019/2020).
