Published on the occasion of the exhibition Issey Miyake Making Things at the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, Paris, 13 October 1998 to 28 February 1999. Sato surveys Miyake's career from the 1960s onward, while Chandès interviews the designer on his philosophy and creative process. Meier's 50 colour photographs document the exhibition. The book traces Miyake's innovations in material and construction — from Pleats Please to A-POC — drawing on traditional Japanese textile techniques to rethink the relationship between cloth and body. Colour and black and white illustrations throughout.
