Torben Höke travelled for three months through India, from Kolkata to Varanasi to Bangalore and back again. None of the country's familiar spectacle appears in his photographs. Instead, the pictures are made inside hostels, run-down hotels and other low-budget accommodations — spaces that could be anywhere and nowhere. 53 colour photographs document dimly lit hallways, improvised wiring, peeling walls, and the travellers, staff and dogs who pass through them. A portrait of a transient in-between world.
