Search & Destroy #4
Softcover | First edition | Out of print
Published by Search & Destroy, 1977.
Founded by V. Vale while working at City Lights Bookstore, Search & Destroy began with a $100 grant from Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Allen Ginsberg to document the emerging punk movement. Printed in a raw, cut-and-paste tabloid format, the zine featured interviews, photography, and underground music coverage. Issue #4 includes interviews with Iggy Pop and Patti Smith, with a cover photograph by Charles Gatewood. The zine ran for 11 issues between 1977 and 1979 before evolving into RE/Search, expanding its focus to broader countercultural themes.
