Made during the same period Kobayashi was working as an assistant to Elliott Erwitt in the United States, in the late 1960s into the early 1970s. Shot largely in Los Angeles, the work reflects a period of close looking and mobility, made outside of assignment and without narrative framing.

Edited by Shigekazu Kuwahara, the book folds in ads and music references from the time. A loose study of American life from an outsider’s view.
