Why Can’t We Be Here offers a fascinating look into  Hashiguchi’s time documenting the cultural shifts across West Berlin in the early 1980’s. Hashiguchi’s photographs present a West Germany’s disaffected youth against the backdrop of a city in the midst of a subcultural revolution, but also a city reeling from Germany’s defeat in WW2.
